The steaks were divine. By far the best I’d ever tasted. Rhys had ordered salads as well and we were stuffed.

“Full?” Rhys asked, sitting on my chaise lounge. I moved my legs over so he’d have enough room. Even still, my legs touched his back. Not that I was complaining.

“My stomach might explode at any moment. Consider yourself warned,” I joked with him. He looked me over, his eyes lingering on certain places.

“I’ll take that chance,” he responded, placing his hand on my thigh. That felt way better than it should. Tingles floated up to places that remembered exactly what his hands could do.

“That steak was incredible. I’ve never had a better one.”

He nodded his head, not saying anything. “You didn’t even try it did you?” I asked, thinking back to his plate. Every time I looked, there was a hotdog on it.

“Not yet,” he said, his hand starting to rub slowly on my leg. Gosh, that felt nice. I sunk even further back.

“How many hotdogs did you eat?”

Rhys’ broad shoulders shook. “Don’t ask.”

Nudging him with my knee, I asked again, “How many?”

His eyes danced as he laughed some more, shaking his head. “Trust me when I say you don’t want to know.”

“More than three?”

He nodded.

“Less than ten?”

He nodded again, this time throwing his head back and laughing out loud. “Somewhere in that vicinity, yes.”

I agreed with him, “Yeah, I really don’t want to know.” Then we both laughed. “You’re a really good sport. Thanks for teaching Maya the ins and outs.”

“She’s a great kid. Fun to be around,” he said, taking his hand off my leg. Immediately I missed his touch.

My eyes traveled over to the deck where a few sets of eyes were trying very hard not to stare at us. “I hope you didn’t have to divulge too many of your roasting secrets?” I joked, pushing him in the back with my leg.

His body was solid and didn’t budge. “That’s between me and Maya.”

Speaking of, the now professional wiener roaster was waving her arms. “Doctor Maxwell, it’s time,” she said in an extremely excited voice.

“Time for what?” I asked, wondering what he had up his sleeve now.

He stood, then reached down for my hand. “Come see for yourself.” I took his hand and we walked around the pool until we reached the deck. Then he released my hand and let me go up the stairs first.

“Let’s get everything ready,” Rhys said to Maya, leaving me with the others. They both went back into the house.

“How are you doing, Flo?” I asked, concerned the long day had been too taxing on her. In my mind I thought we’d be over here for a couple of hours. Boy was I wrong. Earlier, Kendall and I had settled Flo in a downstairs bedroom for a nap.

Rhys had thought it was a good idea as well. But after barely an hour Flo had gotten up all by herself and found her way back outside.

Her head raised up and she glanced at me.
